Make a vegan graham cracker crust right at home with only 3 ingredients. It's such a fun recipe and you will not believe how easy it is!
Graham Crackers make the perfect crust for so many no-bake desserts and pies, like my easy, no-bake pumpkin pie. I mean who doesn't like a graham cracker?
I have been making graham cracker crusts since I was a kid using graham crackers, sugar, and butter. And now I make a vegan version that is just as good. It's such an easy recipe to make and it's also easy to veganize with just a few simple swaps.
Vegan Graham Cracker Crust Ingredients
For this recipe you will need vegan butter, sugar, and graham crackers (without honey).
I use Earth Balance for the butter replacement and it turns out great. I've read that you can even use coconut oil in place of the butter, but I haven't tried that myself.
As for the Graham Crackers, just read the ingredient list to make sure that they do not contain honey. Nabisco and Keebler Original Graham Crackers do not contain honey and are vegan.
Lastly, make sure that you sugar is vegan. Yes, it's sad that not all sugar is vegan, as some contains animal bone char- say what! Click here for more information. Wholesome Natural Cane Sugar is vegan and is available from Amazon.
How to make a vegan graham cracker crust
- Start by crushing your graham crackers. You will need 1 ½ cups of cracker crumbs, which is about 10 sheets of crackers. You can do this in a food processor or by hand. If you choose to crush them by hand (which is way more fun), simply place them in a zip top bag and crush them with a rolling pin or the bottom of a glass.
- Next, mix the cracker crumbs and sugar together in a medium size bowl.
- Then stir in the melted butter until your mixture resembles wet sand.
- Press the mixture into your dish or pie plate and up the sides, using your hands. Then use the bottom of a small glass to compact the crumbs further and even out the crust.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
- Let cool before filling.
Pie Crust Tips
- Be sure to really pack down your cracker mixture in the bottom of your dish and up the sides. If your crumbs are too loose, the crust will not stick together. You can always add a bit more vegan butter if necessary.
- You can freeze this crust for up to three months. Just bake, cool, and freeze. Then, thaw before filling and serving.
- Try replacing sugar with Stevia for a healthier pie crust or try a half and half combo.
In a Pinch
This homemade pie crust taste so much better than store bought. But I know that sometimes we really need convenience. That's why I want to share these vegan store bought options. I've used the Keebler Ready Crust in a pinch and they work great.
Also, check out these non-dairy canned whipped creams- so much fun for the kids! We've come such a long way with dairy-free options and I can't wait to see hat the future holds!
I hope you try this recipe for homemade vegan graham cracker crust. It really is delicious and fun to make. Let me know- how will you fill yours?
