You are going to love this recipe for Dairy Free Peppermint Oreo Truffles! They are so easy to make and require only 5 ingredients. Perfect for your next holiday gathering!
Did you know that Oreos are dairy-free and vegan? How wonderful is that! I love Oreos and I used to make Oreo truffles that were very similar to these, except they contained dairy. But with all the dairy-free alternatives available now, dairy just isn't necessary to make these delicious peppermint truffles.
What do you need?
For this recipe, you will need a 14 oz package of Oreos, 8 oz of vegan cream cheese (store-bought or homemeade), Dairy-Free White Chocolate, crushed candy canes, and peppermint extract (optional).
For the vegan cream cheese, I recommend the Daiya or Tofutti brand. Or if you have the time, homemade is even better. Here is a link for a good homemade Vegan Cream Cheese.
Dairy Free white chocolate can be difficult to find in the grocery stores, that's why I love Amazon! I used King David Non Dairy White Chocolate Chips for this recipe. It melted and hardened beautifully and my kids loved it. It's not exactly like white chocolate, but it's a great substitute.
The peppermint extract is optional, although I recommend using it if you want that peppermint taste on the inside. And I love the crunchy peppermint candy as a topping! It gives each truffle a peppermint crunch that's delicious.
How to Make
These are really easy to make, although a bit time consuming to dip. I would allow an hour for the dipping process, so you aren't rushed. Just have fun with it.
- You start by crushing Oreos into fine crumbs with a food processor. Alternatively, this can be done by hand by placing cookies in a zip top bag and smashing with a rolling pin- more fun that way too.
- Next add the cream cheese and peppermint extract to the crumbs and stir until well combined.
- Once mixture is well combined, shape into balls and place them in the freezer for at least 1 hour and up to overnight. I used a cookie scoop and it worked great.
- To crush candy canes, place in a zip top bag and crush with a rolling pin or the bottom of a heavy glass. Reserve for topping.
- Now it's time to melt the chocolate. Great news- this can be done in the microwave. Simply place the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring in between until smooth.
- Once the chocolate is melted, it's time to dip the truffles. I place the truffle on a fork and then lower it into the bowl of chocolate. Next, I use a spoon to coat the top and tap the fork gently against the bowl to remove excess chocolate. You will get the hang of it after a few.
- Place truffle on a parchment lined baking sheet and immediately sprinkle the truffle with crushed candy canes or decoration of choice. Allow truffles to set.
Storing
Store your delicious holiday treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Try to eat them all the first day (like my husband). Or do- it's the holidays!

The simplicity of this recipe is great because it allows for creativity in other ingredients you may want to add.

I agree! Right now, you could use Lemon Oreos and omit the peppermint crunch for a wonderful Easter treat.
